summer must-haves

Hey everyone! Today officially marks the first day of summer, and although the weather in my part of the country has been overcast and grey, I am celebrating my favorite season with the first post in my summer beauty series. In todays post, I am sharing the 10 beauty products that make up my summer must-haves. Let's jump right in!

Because summer weather tends to be hot and humid, I like to keep my face make-up light and fresh. I prefer to use a tinted moisturizer with a little SPF because it evens out my skin tone, provides a bit of moisture and gives me a little extra protection from the sun. Since I opt for a tinted moisturizer with sheer coverage, I make sure to have a good concealer to help me with any areas where I need a little extra coverage. I like a brightening concealer because it covers dark circles beautifully. Pictured above: Benefit Erase Paste

I love orange polish for the summer because it is bright, vibrant and fun, not to mention it beautifully emphasizes a tan. Pictured above: Essie Polish in Meet Me At Sunset

My overall summer look is bronzed and bare-faced. I love to keep it natural and light, focusing on accentuating my features. For my eyes, I prefer to use a sheer wash of color in a bronze shade to play up my summer tan. I also tend to use cream shadows for summer since I find that they stay put longer than powder. To finish off my face make-up, I always set my tinted moisturizer with a light powder to help it stay on all day and to absorb any extra oil on my skin. Pictured above: Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder in Fair

For my lips, I always go for a balm stain because it is moisturizing and lasts all day. I love having a bright pop of color on my lips, and orange is my go-to color for the warmer months. I think that orange lips can flatter all skin types as long as you choose the one that is right for your complexion. Pictured above: Revlon Color Stay Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous

The one cosmetic that I refuse to leave the house without is a bit of mascara. I feel that it frames my eyes, making them appear wide and awake and overall completes any make-up look no matter how simple. I love very black formulations and in the summer I only wear waterproof because they wont budge. Pictured above: Maybelline Volum'Express The Rocket Waterproof Mascara in Very Black

Sun protection is important all year and you should wear a good sunblock everyday. Although my tinted moisturizer has SPF 15, I like to have a little extra protection in the summertime. After I cleanse my face, I apply an SPF 30 sunblock lotion that is specifically designed for use on the face. I choose an SPF 30 because I feel that it gives me ample protection without feeling heavy and greasy. Pictured above: Aveeno Active Naturals Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion, SPF 30

I love loose, beachy waves for the summer because they look laid-back and effortless and require minimal effort and upkeep. To get texture without going to the beach, spritz your hair with a sea salt spray and lightly scrunch. Pictured above: Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

I reserve heavier perfumes for the colder months, opting for light, fresh and fruity scents in the summer. Apple scents are my all-time favorite for the warmer months and I naturally gravitate towards them once the temperature starts to rise. Pictured above: DKNY Be Delicious
